For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.
And unto the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might gain the Jews; to them that are under the law, as under the law, that I might gain them that are under the law;
To them that are without law, as without law, (being not without law to God, but under the law to Christ,) that I might gain them that are without law.
To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
And this I do for the gospel’s sake, that I might be partaker thereof with you.
Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.
I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air:
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.
– 1 Corinthians 9:19-27
You can be a businessman and yet discharge your priestly functions effectively. Among the clients that you attend to, there are people with all manners of needs that require your priestly anointing to solve. You can play your roles as priest and king interchangeably any time any day. As a businessman, you do your business with the kingly anointing upon your life, excelling in it. But right there in the business premises, if there arises a need for you to switch to your priestly role, you do so immediately without many protocols. You are both a king and a priest and you can play both roles in the same place at the same time.
If every Christian in business functions effectively as priest and businessman, their impact on God’s kingdom and their nation will be immeasurable. Same will be the case if we have contractors and politicians that are active priests.
Being productive in the dual position of priest and king is particularly helpful in reaching some people that have the tendency to look down upon preachers and ministers. A priest-lawyer will find his way more easily into the heart of a secular lawyer. So also, a priest-doctor will find his way more easily into the heart and understanding of a secular doctor.
The bottom line is that all hands must be on the deck at this time to draw in as many souls into God’s kingdom as He enables us to. There is no acceptable excuse for underutilizing the capacities God has bestowed upon us.
- Thank God for your business and dedicate it to God.
- Pray that every Christian businessman or woman will become an active priest and king.
- Pray for greater creativity, innovation and business expansion among God’s people.
CONFESSION: I am God’s extended hands. Wherever I am; in whatever I do; I will be working to expand His kingdom.
