There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
– Romans 8:1-9
The greatest battles you will fight as a Christian – from the day you surrender your life to Christ – are the battle of the mind. Although we break away from the kingdom and lordship of the devil after receiving Christ, we are never totally out of reach to his wiles and his several attempts to manipulate us to do things we should not. We, therefore, have to pay serious attention to what goes on in our minds, “…Lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices” (2 Corinthians 2:11).
Winning this battle is an absolute necessity. It is a matter of life and death; so you must do everything that is possible to fight and win it. “…For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” (Romans 8:5-6).
Two categories of people are engaged in this fight. One group comprises those that place the things of the flesh above the things of the spirit. The verdict on these ones is simple. “To be carnally minded is death” The other group comprises those that place things of the spirit above the things of the flesh. “To be spiritually minded is life and peace.”
The reality you must accept is that you will always have to make the choice of either yielding to the pressures of the flesh and do the things it demands, or you yield to the Spirit and do the things God demands. Wouldn’t you rather choose life and peace instead of death? The right choice pays both earthly and eternal dividends.
- Reject, bind and cast out every thought or imagination that contends against God in your heart.
- Pray for renewal and revitalization of your spirit.
CONFESSION: I choose life and peace; so I reject every manipulative influence of the evil one.
