Hebrews 12:1

1 Thessalonians 5:22.
Bible in one year: Psalm 24-26.

There are certain sins in our lives that we have to face squarely and consciously turn our backs on. Until we bring a genuine repentance and a total separation, we would simply ask for mercy and end up going back to the same sin. Our Bible reading talks about the sin “which so easily ensnares us” (Hebrews 12:1-2).

An ensnaring sin is one that we find very hard to resist, the one that poses a very potent temptation. We overcome such sin by the help of the Holy Spirit and our strong will and discipline against it. When we avoid all circumstances that could lead us into temptation and make conscious efforts not to be ensnared, we discipline our flesh and strengthen our will against the snares of the sin. Repentance is not when we simply tell God we are sorry. It comes with sincere resolution never to return to that sin.

1 Thessalonians 5:22 tells us to avoid every kind of evil. We are to consciously avoid sin and not expose ourselves to environment where we can easily be trapped. We should abstain from all forms of carnality and habits that can encourage us to sin. Apostle Paul advised us on how to break away from sin. (Phillipians 4:8)

PRAYER: Holy Spirit help me to live a life devoid of sin, I acknowledge that I cannot do it on my own but by your grace alone. Help me to live a holy life.
